Breakers season location is still up in the air

The Orange County Breakers, who typically play their matches in Palisades Tennis Club in Newport Beach, are scheduled to open their 2020 season in July. However, World TeamTennis (WTT) has made the decision that due to the coronavirus outbreak the league will hold the three-week season for all teams in one city, the location for which has yet to be determined.

In a statement from the Breakers, WTT says it would be inappropriate for players, staff and fans to travel between nine host cities. The league will follow all CDC and state guidelines, as safety is its top priority, and will announce the host city in the weeks ahead.

The league remains hopeful that the WTT season will begin on July 12, as originally scheduled and believes it will create a unique way to allow its athletes to compete for the 2020 WTT King Trophy and this year’s $1,000,000 prize.

Currently, the league is in discussions with several cities which are located in states that have begun to ease restrictions, as they have indicated an interest in hosting the WTT season and facilitating logistics by consolidating play. The league is expected to post another update before the end of May as plans materialize.
