Hoag recognized as top hospital in Orange County by U.S News & World Report

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian has been named the highest ranked hospital in Orange County, the fourth-best hospital in the Los Angeles metro area and eighth-best in California, by U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday with their annual ranking. Hoag additionally was recognized with high performance in 13 specialty categories.

The rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients and conditions. For the 2020-21 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions.

Joining Hoag on the list from Southern California were UCLA Health hospitals, which placed No. 1 in both Los Angeles and California and No. 4 nationally in the annual rankings, and UCI Medical Center, which is ranked No. 5 in the Los Angeles metropolitan region.

Hoag’s rankings also included national recognition for specialty services, including No. 27 in neurology and neurosurgery, No. 29 in diabetes and endocrinology, No. 33 in pulmonology and lung surgery, No. 35 in orthopedics, No. 37 in gynecology, No. 38 in gastroenterology and GI surgery and No. 40 in geriatrics.

“News that Hoag is once again the only hospital in Orange County to secure a top 10 spot on U.S. News & World Report’s 2020-2021 Best Hospital Rankings in California, and that we increased from four nationally ranked specialties to seven this year, has filled the Hoag community with pride,” said Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital President & CEO Robert Braithwaite. “We are so proud of the efforts our dedicated team has contributed to building a culture of innovation and excellence which has elevated Hoag alongside the best hospitals in the nation.”

This year’s 2020-21 Best Hospitals was U.S. News & World Report’s 31st edition.

The top two ranked hospitals in the nationally were the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., as #1, and the Cleveland Clinic, #2. California hospitals in the Top 10 nationwide, besides UCLA, include Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at #7 and UCSF Medical Center, San Francisco at #8.
