25th Annual Rod Carew Children’s Golf Classic raises more than $352,000 for PCRF

On Monday, Aug. 30, the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) and baseball legend Rod Carew co-hosted the 25th Annual Rod Carew Children’s Cancer Golf Classic at Pelican Hill Golf Club. With 260 players taking over both golf courses, much-needed research dollars totaling more than $352,000 was raised to help eliminate childhood cancer. Bank of America presented this year’s golf tournament for the fifth consecutive year.

Adapting the tournament format to keep all players healthy and safe while fundraising during a pandemic was no easy task, but PCRF was pleased to see many longtime sponsors, supporters and new businesses all show their support to sell out this event. “To have another sold-out tournament during the current climate proves to our researchers and the children who are fighting their cancer journeys every day – they are not forgotten. PCRF, our sponsors, our donors, we are still here, and we will continue to raise money for research with the best hope for a cure,” said Erin Arreola, director of special events for PCRF.

More than 60 sponsors supported the event, including Presenting Sponsor: Bank of America; Title Sponsors: Boroff & Nyberg LLP, Deloitte, LA Galaxy, Olukai, One Hope Winery, SCP Auctions and TravisMathew; Classic Level Sponsors: the Anderson Family, Argaux, Cleveland Golf, LBA Realty LLC, Minnesota Twins, Mouse Graphics, p11 Creative, Shulman Bastian Friedman & Bui LLP and UBS Financial.

Participants enjoyed tee packages filled with swag from TravisMathew, Olukai, Roger Dunn Golf Shops, O’Neill, Srixon, Cleveland Golf, Stance and One Hope Winery. Participating in a tee time format gave a casual pace for the players, allowing for time to bid in the online auction filled with trips, experiences and sports memorabilia.

On display were some of Carew’s prized awards, including his 1967 Rookie of the Year award, 1977 MVP award and all seven Silver Bats.

Your support is truly invaluable and we are greatly appreciative. We set some big fundraising goals to keep the momentum of research moving forward, and because of your help, we continue to get one step closer to eliminating pediatric cancer.”
