NMUSD making plans for end-of-year graduation and promotion festivities

Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) and their schools have begun discussions and planning efforts for end-of-the-year graduations and promotions, which will now be in-person should Orange County remain in the Orange Tier or better.

In-person graduations and promotions will be planned to include speeches and performances, with COVID-19 safety precautions in place. These will include the following requirements: two guests per graduate (or four guests if OC moves to the Yellow Tier), masks required and social distancing.

Because not everyone will want or be able to attend, the in-person graduations and promotions will have live-streaming available for each event.

The schedule of events is as follows:

High Schools – Back Bay/Monte Vista High School, Thursday, June 10 at 10 a.m., in-person at the Hyatt Regency Amphitheater; Corona del Mar High School, Thursday, June 10 at 1:30 p.m., in-person at Davidson Field; Newport Harbor High School, Thursday, June 10 at 6 p.m., in-person at Davidson Field.

Middle Schools – Corona del Mar Middle School, Wednesday, June 9 at 1 p.m., in-person at Davidson Field; Ensign Intermediate School, Wednesday, June 9 at 4:30 p.m., in person at Davidson Field.

Additional details about the graduations and promotions, including sixth grade promotions, will be shared by the school administration as it becomes available. Schools also will share information related to end-of-year activities and senior events, as guidance on these gatherings was recently updated.
